Associate Director, Counseling Center–Requisition # 18000000IN

This position provides administrative management of the team of clinicians that provide counseling, consultation, and crisis intervention services to the campus community. Within the auspices of this potion, the individual will work with the center director to supervise and coordinate psychiatric services provided to University students, provide consultation/guidance to clinicians during crisis situations, and make decisions regarding breaching students' confidentiality when they have met the threshold to be a danger to themselves or others in order to inform other University offices to maintain safety. This position will also participate in treatment team meetings with other university offices, such as Behavioral Intervention team meetings, Disability Resource Center meetings, Student Health Center meetings, in order to make general recommendations regarding students' continuance in the university setting and/or best practices to maintain students' mental health and wellbeing. This position works to ensure that the mental health professionals who are working with the campus community are making sound clinical decisions and are not impaired in their ability to perform their clinical work. Responsibilities include:
  • Responsible for the administrative supervision of the daily operations of the center, including supervision of six clinicians, clinical supervision for interns and two administrative assistants; responsible for scheduling, on-boarding and orientation of new employees and interns to the department, maintaining office records and ensure compliance with legal/ethical guidelines (HIPAA/FERPA), maintaining policies and procedures, and coordinating clinical treatment team meetings both within the center and outside as needed.
  • Coordinating both within the center and outside on crisis interventions and responses, as well as psychiatric services offered to UTC students. The person in this position must be available to consult with clinicians 24/7 regarding emergent students and involuntary hospitalizations; communicating with area hospitals as needed to coordinate appropriate mental health and primary care, aftercare, and records transfers as needed in the event of hospitalization and/or transfer to a higher level of mental health care.
  • Disseminating information and educating the campus community on issues related to mental health, mental illness, and mental wellness in order to promote an increased understanding and acceptance of mental health issues on the college campus.
  • Providing consultation to students, faculty and staff regarding difficult situations and recommending courses of action, as it pertains to mental health, that consider both the welfare of students and the campus community as a whole; spearheading initiatives and protocols to facilitate the success of students with mental health/illness issues.
  • Working either in consultation with clinicians and/or with other campus offices to coordinate services in the event that there is a safety issue with either an individual student or a safety issues that will impact the greater campus community. The Associate Director works to make decisions that respect the confidentiality and safety of student clients, while maintaining the welfare of the campus. In this endeavor, this position is responsible for consulting with parents/caregivers, healthcare professionals, and other agencies (as applicable to HIPAA/FERPA).
QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree and professional licensure in counseling or related field required; Doctorate in Counselor Education & Supervision or related field preferred. TN LPC-MHSP and maintaining licensure in this and license as a Clinical Supervisor is required. Five years' experience at a University Counseling Center preferred; experience in administrative and clinical supervision preferred. Must have the ability to make sound and ethical clinical judgments regarding student care while balancing the safety of the university community; ability to make sound and ethical decisions in emergency and crisis situations; ability to engage in psychoeducational and consultation work regarding addiction, mental health, mental illness, wellness and prevention strategies. Must have the ability and knowledge to negotiate federal, state, and community mental health care systems and the legal mandates that govern them within an educational setting. Position requires on call availability for evenings/nights/weekends.
