The School of Education at Elon University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Education position specializing in reading/literacy education, beginning August 2022.

Elon University's School of Education is committed to supporting the development of teachers of reading/literacy grounded in equity and access. We seek candidates with a commitment to working with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds in teaching reading and literacy-related content. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate teacher preparation programs and Elon's General Studies (CORE) Curriculum, with possible teaching opportunities in the master's program in education. Responsibilities include teaching K-8 reading/literacy content, children's literature, English language arts methods and related courses, as well as collaborating with public school partners for practicum and student teacher supervision. Additional responsibilities include student advising and undergraduate research mentorship, service to the department, university, and profession. In addition, candidates must demonstrate a record of, or potential for, scholarly activity, including professional publications and presentations.

Required Qualifications

  • D. or Ed.D. (ABD considered with completion by starting date) from an appropriately accredited institution in reading education, curriculum and instruction, literacy education, literacy studies, teacher education and development, or related field.



  • Successful experience as a practicing teacher in K- 12 schools, for reading/literacy, reading specialist/ interventionist, literacy coach or related area.



  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research, mentoring and/or advising that contributes to an environment of equity, diversity, and inclusion.



  • Record of, or potential for scholarly research commensurate with rank.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Successful experience teaching in undergraduate and/or graduate courses.



  • Experience teaching online courses and/or demonstrated competency using web teaching technologies.



  • Supervision of clinical field experiences in K-12 schools.



  • Knowledge and/or experience in mentoring of the edTPA assessment process.
