About the Opportunity:
Serves as a member of the departmental management team and shares in the leadership, support, and assistance to residence hall staff. Supervises 1 full-time Area Coordinator, 2-3 full-time non-exempt Residence Directors and up to 55 Resident Assistants.

Responsibilities:
This Assistant Director is responsible for the recruitment, selection, and training of all Professional and Graduate staff. They will manage the recruitment and selection of staff by posting positions, collecting and reviewing resumes, creating interview process and questions, and identifying candidates who can be successful in the role. Manages the guest apartment for visiting candidates and ensures the department is well represented. This position involves travel to national and regional conferences for the recruitment of staff. This position is also responsible for the training and development of all professional staff in the department by creating a comprehensive training program to acquaint new staff with the workings of our department and provide updated training for all returning and new staff members. They are also charged with providing professional development opportunities for all staff throughout the year.

They will advise the Graduate Assistant Growth Experience (GAGE) and meet regularly with all the graduate assistants to help them maximize their time at Northeastern.
Clarifying and resolving student/parent complaints with departmental policies, procedures, and directives.
Assisting residence hall staff with student development, violations of community standards, crisis intervention, conflict resolution and mediation.

This staff member will participate in an on call duty rotation. This staff member will carry a pager and be available to respond to crisis/problem situations approximately once every five weeks. When paged, staff member will be expected to direct and or coordinate the problem or crisis situation.

Oversees the Residence Director duty schedule and maintains up-to-date staff lists.
Coordination and implementation of departmental decisions and directives. Responsible for the assessment of staff and student developmental needs and advising innovative approaches to address those needs.
Balancing job demands with the needs to collaborate with university and community colleagues to enhance the department and one's own professional development.

Successful candidate will subject to a criminal background check.

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in student personnel, higher education administration, or related field.
  • Four to six years in residence hall administration, including experience as a live-in staff member.
  • Experience preferred in supervising professional residence hall staff.
  • Effective supervision, administrative, organization, written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in conflict resolution, mediation, and application of student development theory in a residence hall setting.
  • Strong decision making skills.
  • Experience working autonomously and ability to exercise excellent judgment in outlined areas of responsibility
  • Experience and desire to work with and address the needs of a diverse student community.
  • Demonstrated organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with computer applications and using social media platforms as a tool for developing community.
