JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Regional Campus Career Services, this position supports the day-to-day operations of the Center for Career Development (Career Center, CCD) activities on the Waterbury campus. The Assistant Director develops, plans, and administers career-related programs and activities designed to assist undergraduate and graduate students. The Assistant Director advises students from a diversity of backgrounds, identities, and disciplines on career exploration, professional development, and techniques for obtaining employment. Additionally, this individual will conduct outreach to employers and alumni to locate jobs, internships, and other professional opportunities.

Incumbents in this position are expected to work with a fair amount of independence, but within the goals and objectives established by the supervisor.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists in the planning, development, design implementation, and evaluation of all activities at the Career Center - Waterbury Campus.
  • Meets with students around career-related topics including deciding on a major or career, resume critiques, interviewing, LinkedIn profiles, and job and internship search strategies.
  • Provides continued support for students from diverse backgrounds, identities, and disciplines by joining the internal Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and/or through departmental-wide efforts.
  • Conducts studies, collects necessary data, evaluates information, and prepares analytical reports for CCD-Waterbury campus outcomes.
  • Engages with corporate, non-profit, and social services community to develop relationships, foster job leads, and effectively coordinate employer participation in work experience and/or internship programs for students.
  • Engages and partners with alumni to connect students to viable career opportunities and meaningful career information, including internships, co-ops, and post-graduation opportunities.
  • Conducts workshops and seminars to instruct, inform, and train students on career-related topics.
  • Develops relationships with faculty and staff that result in collaboration within and outside the classroom, helping them understand career development. Included in this relationship-building is the active promotion of Career Everywhere and the Career Champion program.
  • Works with the Career Center's Corporate Partner Relations team to coordinate events and engage employers near and around the Waterbury area regarding program information, job postings, and career fairs.
  • Plans, develops, and implements methods and techniques of informing and/or educating others about programs and services.
  • Responsible for the successful completion of individual projects.
  • Responsible for various administrative duties as assigned.
  • May participate in the planning, development, and implementation of grant proposals.
  • Represents the Department to external groups.
  • Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in career planning and placement, academic advising or higher education, business/industrial personnel administration, or related field including one year of experience serving as an advanced team member.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the unique needs of diverse populations and a commitment to equitably addressing these needs.
  • Strong presentation skills; effective in a variety of settings (one-on-one, small group, large group).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in higher education, counseling, or related field.
  • Knowledge of tools related to the delivery of career development and placement services: Career Management Software such as Symplicity or Handshake.
  • Demonstrated evidence of successful experience supporting the unique needs of diverse populations.
  • Experience as a Career Counselor/Coach.
  • Proven ability to evaluate and produce reliable results, troubleshoot, and problem-solve.
  • Capacity to establish priorities and to plan and monitor own work plan.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, permanent position. Salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate's background and experience.
