About the Opportunity

The Faculty Coordinator of the Biotechnology Program is a non-tenure track faculty position who will serve (by appointment of the Dean, College of Science) as a key leader for College of Science master's programs in Toronto, Canada. The Faculty Coordinator will teach courses but also build partnerships with area industry for the benefit of the program, recruit part-time faculty, meet with students, and provide correlated administrative leadership duties.

The successful applicant will have the knowledge to teach Biotechnology courses at the Master's level. This faculty position has their academic appointment in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology and reports to the Chair of that department, but will work closely under direction of the Boston-based Director of the Biotechnology Program.

This position is based at Northeastern University's Toronto Campus. The Master's in Biotechnology is designed to allow students to pursue advanced training and excel in bioscience while simultaneously developing highly valued business skills.

Responsibilities

Non-tenure track teaching faculty with appointments in Chemistry and Chemical Biology are expected to teach five courses and provide one equivalent unit of service to the College. This opportunity will utilize the service requirement to perform administrative duties including recruiting part-time faculty, advising students, and building local industry partnerships of value to the program.

Teaching responsibilities are subject to modification based on program needs and the time commitment of the service requirement and are at the discretion of the Chair of Chemistry and Chemical Biology. Teaching Responsibilities include the following: review and learning of key teaching points within existing instructor guides, and a willingness to support high-quality teaching and standards through: preparation of lectures based on course materials provided; effective facilitation of rich, respectful debates and discussions in an in-person or online class; timely review and grading of assignments with appropriate coaching and feedback to the students; consistent connection with students and their performance; adherence to Northeastern's policies.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates should be committed to fostering diverse and inclusive environments as well as to promoting experiential learning, which are central to a Northeastern University education.

Candidate must have a Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Cellular Biology or related field by the appointment start date, and a commitment to teaching excellence at the university level.

Position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work productively and successfully and interact with students, faculty, staff and industry partners. Demonstrated experience in the biotechnology industry desirable, but not required.
