Responsibilities:
Design, implement and support a database management system that supports approximately 25 research scientists/engineers from multiple institutions participating in research projects supported by the National Institute of Health (NIH), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other. The projects include the PROTECT Center, the CRECE Center, and The ECHO Project at Northeastern University, among others; which are working across multiple geographic locations, supporting research in the areas of environmental and public health. The system is built using EarthSoft's EQUIS Enterprise software, and utilizes Microsoft SQLserver, as well as Microsoft Server and Microsoft IIS. The Applications Developer & Data Administrator is responsible for the import, export, cleaning, security and reliability of all data in the system. Data cleaning and data de-identification are frequent issues that need to be constantly assessed. The Applications Developer & Data Administrator is also responsible for system administration of the servers used by the Center. Ongoing work includes the development of EQUIS dashboards to allow users to easily access data remotely and securely, and the development of machine learning tools to enable researchers to identify trends and outliers in large data sets. Future work will include the integration of the PROTECT, CRECE and ECHO data, making these data sets ready and available to become part of a national data repository. Future work will also include redesign of the existing database, developing tools that build automated data dictionaries, and developing a seamless interface to present data sets through ArcGIS.

Qualifications:
BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering or Information Systems. 2 years' experience or equivalent working with database systems, Microsoft server products, expertise in Python, C# and Perl, and general knowledge of server maintenance is required. Experience performing data cleaning and data dictionaries is required. Experience working with environmental data and ArcGIS is a plus. Knowledge of working with database ontologies desired.
