Job Description:

“MCCC/MTA Unit” Position

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

This is a full-time faculty position. The faculty member will provide instruction to a diverse student body, teaching courses in the Business Administration Department may include but is not limited to Introduction to Accounting I and II; Financial Accounting; Managerial Accounting; Intermediate Accounting I and II; Computerized Accounting; and various other business courses. The faculty member works with the Dean, Assistant Dean, Department Chair and other faculty in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the program and will participate in college service and student advising. The successful candidate will be committed to teaching excellence, principles of diversity, and continuous professional improvement.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Reports to the Assistant Dean of Business, Entrepreneurship and Legal Studies

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Teach 15 credits per semester in Business Administration courses, including but not limited to, Introduction to Accounting I and II; Financial Accounting; Managerial Accounting; Intermediate Accounting I and II; Computerized Accounting; and various other business courses; on any campus, as required.
• Teach Microsoft Excel skills embedded in accounting courses such as formulas and functions; create , navigate and save workbooks; what if scenarios; create, sort and filter an Excel table.
• Use accounting software in every accounting course that is appropriate to the content of the course such as General Ledger Software.
• Develop and use teaching methods which engage students having varying learning styles and abilities.
• Participate in curriculum and program development; workforce development initiatives; and high-impact practices as they relate to the college's strategic plan.
• Participate in related industry and community partnerships, including but not limited to educational and professional associations and committees.
• Maintain currency in the field of instruction with ongoing professional development.
• Participate in the development and application of innovative instructional approaches; including technology in the classroom, business simulation software, web-based, hybrid or computer enhanced courses. Experience with Blackboard is desirable but not required.
• Develop and apply assessment strategies that maximize the learning process and measure student learning outcomes and provide evidence of students’ attainment of designated student learning outcomes.
• Fulfill terms of faculty contract as set out in Agreement between the Higher Education Coordinating Council and the Massachusetts Community College Council/Massachusetts Teachers Association.

 

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• A Master’s degree, Certified Public Accountant certification or other advanced degree in Accounting, Business or a related field.
• Relevant accounting/business teaching experience in higher-education, secondary or business/industry settings.
• Demonstrated ability to teach courses in a variety of business administration areas
• Evidence of strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills
• Evidence of the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Evidence of the ability to think critically and creatively
• Evidence of continuous professional development
• Experience working with individuals of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in Accounting
• Knowledge of and a commitment to community college academic programs, services and culture
• Evidence of successful experience with a variety of instructional methods, and a demonstrated ability to develop or apply innovative instructional approaches, and a willingness to integrate technology into the classroom
• Experience teaching business/accounting in higher education

 

Additional Information:

Candidates who are selected for an interview will be required to do a teaching demonstration and complete an Microsoft Excel skills assessment..

The full Faculty salary range under the collective bargaining agreement is $38,464-$92,555. Starting salary for Faculty is determined by a classification system structure based on academic credentials, related experience and related licenses and certifications. Anticipated starting salary for candidates possessing the required qualifications posted above would be between $45-$50K, but is determined by the classification system structure.
