Location: Boston, MA Category: Professional Staff Posted On: Tue Nov 15 2022 Job Description: The Academic & Career Advisor provides on-site personal counseling, academic, and career advising, and meets with students one on one to help them develop their educational and career plans and refers students to other social services agencies when needed. The Academic & Career Advisor meets with instructors to discuss and develop solutions to overcome barriers that inhibit student success. Will assist with the first year learning community seminar and recruiting each years incoming class. RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: Assist with the coordination of the Transitions to college program. Meet with students individually and in small groups (both in person and virtually). Provide counseling and academic and career coaching. Meet with Adult Education and Transition to College Program instructors. Refer students to community resources and agencies, as needed. Attend weekly planning meetings. Review and enter student data/goals in state and college databases. Attend professional development workshops and conferences. Recruit incoming class of 35+ students each academic year. Attend new hire 15-hour DESE advisor training. Obtain certification to administer assessments(TABE Clas-E and BEST Plus). Job Requirements: Masters' Degree in education or other related field Three years+ experience working with and teaching adult learners and diverse populations Understanding of and sensitivity to the special needs of adult learners Excellent computer skills Excellent organizational skills Excellent oral and written communication skills Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual in Spanish Additional Information: Salary: $54,956.00-$65,000.00 Actual Salary Will Be Commensurate With Education & Experience in Accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
