Job Summary/Basic Function:
SUMMARY:

Function:
Under general supervision, perform a variety of organizational and administrative duties in support of the continuous State/Departmental training mandates. Assist in the coordination of all special events in and around Lamar University's campus, and maintain administrative rosters.

Scope:
The Training & Special Events Manager is expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment in carrying out a variety of assignments within established guidelines. These assignments include providing educational support to police instructors, assisting in recruitment and retention of personnel, conducting background inquiries on candidates, managing of special events staffing via web-based systems, and performing other related responsibilities as assigned.

DUTIES:
Typical:
  • Teach, counsel, and mentor non-commissioned officers and support personnel.
  • Assist visiting instructors, and facilitate training.
  • Maintain computer-based administrative records; all training and instructional materials.
  • Assist with the administration of candidate testing and interviews.
  • Ensure department compliance with TCOLE mandated training.
    Develop and present department inservice training related to customer service and related topics.
  • Represent LUPD in institute functions and professional groups, on and off campus.
  • Attend workshops, seminars, and conferences to enhance knowledge and teaching skills.
  • Assist with the upkeep and maintenance of classrooms and equipment in host locations.
  • Develop and maintain department training calendar and special events roster.
  • Identify training needs for department personnel based on State and Departmental training mandates.
  • Research, draft, and distribute training bulletins.

    Periodic:
  • Participate in department mandatory work assignments pertaining to athletic events, commencements, etc.
  • Liaison with other agencies and training providers to provide specific job related training.
  • Liaison with other agencies to coordinate and manage special events and staffing.
  • Represent LU Pol ice Department at all regional training and special event meetings, when assigned.
  • Enroll personnel in courses and coordinate travel and lodging reservations.

    SUPERVISION:
    Received: Professional Standards Unit Lieutenant for training coordination; Field Operations Lieutenant for special events management.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    EDUCATION:
    Required: 1.) High School Diploma or GED

    EXPERIENCE:
    Required: 1.) 1 year of administrative assistant and/or executive assistant experience.

    EQUIPMENT:
    Required: Must be proficient with eqiupment utilized for administrative tasks, necessary to perform training scheduling and special events staffing. Must be proficient in the use of computers, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

    ACCURACY:
    Proficient in all phases of duties performed. Must demonstrate logical and effective problem-solving ability.

    PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:
    Duties involve driving, walking, standing, stooping, crouching, pulling, carrying, reaching above head, lifting, lower, hand-wrist and elbow motion, grasping, and holding. Average physical condition and vision, ability to hear and speak, and full use of arms and legs.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Usual: Exposure to outside weather conditions when assigned. May be required to work either day or night and on holidays. Must hold a valid drivers license not subject to suspension. Must be eligible to drive a University owned or leased motor vehicle. Effective written and oral communication skills. Knowledge and skills in emergency medical procedures, first aid and CPR techniques.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION:
    Preferred: 1.) 30 hours of college credit from an accredited institution of higher education.

    EXPERIENCE:
    Preferred: 1.) Training in Customer Service and/or similar topics.
