The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded program at BHCC intended to increase the retention and graduation rates of first-generation and low-income students as well as individuals with disabilities who are enrolled in the program. The TRIO Success Coach is someone with demonstrated passion for and dedication to this population of students. They are familiar with the unique issues faced by first-generation college students and are sensitive to cross cultural differences and the value of Learning Communities. Under the direction of the TRIO Student Support Services Director, the TRIO Success Coach will implement an array of holistic academic support services to raise the retention and graduation rates of program participants. This position is available contingent upon continued grant funding.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide individualized and strengths-based coaching to an assigned caseload of students.

  • Initiate proactive, consistent contact with TRIO students (in person, postal mail, phone, email, text, social media etc.), build rapport with students, serve as the assigned students' designated student success coach over the course of their academic time span at the college.

  • Act as liaison and TRIO SSS advocate by working with various campus departments and identifying and recommending appropriate services designed to address student needs.

  • Maintain accurate, organized, and detailed case management process and procedures including assessments, note taking and student records; develop and maintain reports as assigned; and maintain appropriate filing and documentation per FERPA and TRIO guidelines.

  • Initiate, design, develop, and execute student focused initiatives and/or workshops to enhance inclusive excellence related to student success, retention, persistence, academic achievement, career exploration and graduation rates.

  • Assist students with transfer process including and not limited to college visits/tours.

  • Assist the TRIO SSS Director with data collection for the Annual Performance report to meet U.S. Department of Education compliance's and deadlines.

  • Maintain current knowledge and records of TRIO regulations and requirements applicable to TRIO SSS office.

  • Assist with all aspects of program review and student retention efforts such as surveys, focus groups, orientation sessions, intervention groups.

  • Perform other duties as assigned for the betterment of each program participant.


Job Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Human Services, Psychology or a closely related field; with three (3) years of experience and/or training involving academic advising, career development, case management which can be substituted for comparable experience in an institute of higher education, TRIO program or client-based community organization; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in career development, case management.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in student information systems.

  • Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Community College Experience.

  • Experience working with adult learners.

  • Our students come from a variety of cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and we are dedicated to providing them with the support they need to succeed. The ability to read, speak, and write in Spanish or another language such as Arabic, Cape Verdean Creole, Chinese, English, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Somali, Spanish, Vietnamese, and French is preferred.

  • In addition, it is preferred that the Success Coach is an individual who has succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the project's target population.


Additional Information:

Salary Range: $70,929.00 - $76,416.00 Actual Salary Will Be Commensurate With Education and Experience in Accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full state Benefits.

This position is Grant funded by the Federal Department of Education; Grant-funded through 8/31/2025
