Job Description

Responsible for the analysis, design, development, testing, documentation, implementation, maintenance and enhancements of various departmental and enterprise-wide applications systems. Serves as a member of ITS project teams involving various third-party vendor software packages and custom in-house applications ensuring that ITS architecture, security, quality and client business needs are met. Adhere to industry best practices and develop solutions that meet auditing and security requirements.

Proactively contribute and take on responsibility, setting best practices for the team, while being flexible, detail-oriented and passionate about meeting the needs of the client and ITS. Strong understanding of application and system architecture,application and database design, and data analysis and quality assurance techniques. Strong technical, analytical, and communication skills are critical.

Role specific competencies:
- Facilitate discussions with business groups to help stakeholders define their needs and translate these needs into quantifiable business/functional requirements.
- Ability to apply analysis techniques and procedures to gather and translate business requirements into technical specifications and designs that meet the business needs.
- Data analysis, data model design, and data integration techniques
- Application analysis; object-oriented analysis, design and development
- Develop test strategies, plans, and execute them
- Distributed, network application concepts and principles.
- Knowledge of security concepts and principles.
- Applications development to include web-based application development tools and integration principles and concepts.
- Working knowledge of network infrastructure components, prototyping paradigms, security issues and production control.
- Ability to maintain databases and application system code.
- Strong SQL and database experience with the ability to analyze and model data and enhance database performance.
- Experience with implementing and customizing or extending vendor-provided solutions.
- Programming and scripting experience to work with schedulers and a variety of data transfer techniques.
- Ability to develop and implement integration strategies and solutions for a variety of vendor applications to meet the specific needs of Boston College.
- Working knowledge of load and regression testing techniques.
- Ability to work effectively with DBA, Systems, Security, and Networking teams, as well as vendors and other technical resources to design, implement and support high availability, mission critical applications and services
- Ability to log support issues and work directly with 3rd parties on corrective actions.
- Strong communication at all levels.

Requirements

Title and salary commensurate with relevant experience based on the following titles and hiring ranges:

Associate Applications Developer - Salary up to 74K:
Associate degree in Computer Science or Information Technology. Minimum of one year of professional IT experience or 1-3 years as a non-exempt employee working in an IT environment.

Applications Developer - Salary up to 90K:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or relevant discipline.
Minimum of three years of programming experience and at least two years of data analysis, design and implementation experience to include working with user departments to define and assess business needs and programming requirements.

Senior Applications Developer - Salary up to 110K:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or relevant discipline.
Minimum of five years of technical experience to include applications development and integration principles and concepts. Previous experience leading technical teams.

May be required to work additional hours to meet project/unit deadlines and time-frames.
