Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost

University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) invites nominations and applications for individuals interested in an exciting leadership opportunity as Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs (SVPAA) and Provost of the University. Reporting to the President, the Provost is the chief academic officer of the University and is responsible for providing the leadership and vision necessary for setting strategic, academic, programmatic and operational directions. The position will require a Provost of considerable experience and skill. UH-Clear Lake's next Provost should possess a distinguished record of leadership while also demonstrating a commitment to teaching/learning, scholarship and service. The successful candidate must embrace excellence and integrity and exhibit the leadership abilities required to achieve the University's vision. Candidates should have an understanding of and commitment to the centrality of student success, traditional academic values of shared governance, and the inextricable link between teaching and scholarship.

UHCL's 524-acre campus is located on a wildlife and nature preserve in the heart of Clear Lake's aerospace community. UHCL is adjacent to NASA Johnson Space Center and just 20 minutes from Galveston Island. It has become a cornerstone of higher education along the upper Gulf Coast of Texas. Since opening its doors in 1974, the University has awarded degrees to more than 66,000 alumni. UHCL emphasizes high academic standards through teaching, research and community service and delivers outstanding educational opportunities in a traditional classroom setting using the latest instructional technologies, as well as cutting-edge distance learning. The Colleges of Business, Education, Human Sciences and Humanities, and Science and Engineering offer more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. In 2007, the University began offering its first doctoral degree, the Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership. A second doctoral degree, the Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, was added in 2014. A third doctoral degree, Doctor of Psychology in Clinical/School Psychology, was added in 2016. In its short history, UHCL has earned a distinctive reputation as a student-centered, community-minded, partnership-oriented university. UHCL has developed partnerships with area businesses, organizations, schools, governmental agencies and individuals that enhance the region\\\\'s educational, economic, cultural, scientific and professional environment.

The Provost will possess an earned terminal degree and have knowledge/experience in teaching and research, as well as current trends in education. The Provost will have credentials to be appointed as a professor with tenure. The Provost of UHCL will be a proven collaborative and entrepreneurial leader and a successful manager of people and programs. Therefore, a track record of 7 – 10 years of progressively responsible administrative leadership, preferably in higher education and/or related field, with a minimum of three years in current role, combined with a collegial and transparent leadership style is expected. Candidates preferably will have demonstrated success with diversity initiatives or programs for students, faculty, and staff sub-groups; will have completed program review and/or regional or specialty accreditation process; and will have played an active role in institutional planning and/or strategic enrollment management planning.
