The University Library is looking for a full­-time Reserves & Media Assistant to join our team. Reserves & Media is a public service unit in the User Services & Resource Sharing department (US&RS) at the University Library. The US&RS team is comprised of the Circulation, Collection Maintenance, Reserves & Media Center, Operations, and Interlibrary Loan units. All US&RS staff members are cross-trained to provide basic services for each unit at multiple public service points. Under the supervision of the Reserves Coordinator, the incumbent will provide public service at the McHenry and Science & Engineering Library Public Service Desks, accept and process traditional reserve lists, support to the Reserves Coordinator on routine reserves work, and participate on library-wide committees and special projects.

The UCSC University Library, founded in 1965, is the largest research library between Stanford and Santa Barbara despite being one of the smallest general libraries in the University of California system. We utilize innovative approaches in working with faculty and students to help them discover, use, manage, and share the array of information that supports their research, teaching, and learning.

The selected candidate will be asked to work evenings and weekends and will be asked to adjust their schedule as the needs of the unit and section require it.

Regular work schedule will be Tuesday through Saturday OR Sunday-Thursday; schedule will include 5 days, exact days and hours to be determined.

Work location will be both at McHenry Library and Science & Engineering Library. Both libraries are located on the UC Santa Cruz campus.

Qualifications include:

Previous library experience.

Demonstrated skill in organizing, monitoring, and setting priorities for a heavy workload with multiple tasks and competing deadlines.

Experience in a computer-reliant work environment and the ability to learn specialized software.

Communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work cooperatively with library staff, student assistants, and patrons from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Ability to apply careful attention to tasks.

The selected candidate will be required to pass a Criminal History Background Check.
