The Indiana University School of Education at Indiana University Purdue University – Indianapolis (IUPUI) seeks applications for an open rank tenure-line position in Urban Education Leadership and Policy. The School of Education at IUPUI is an urban serving institution located in the heart of Indianapolis. The School has a diverse and dynamic faculty employing critical perspectives on teaching, research, and service in urban education. Comprised of approximately 40 full-time scholars, the School's work with schools and communities reflects IUPUI's institutional commitments to diversity, equity and inclusion, civic engagement and collaboration, public scholarship, translational research and creative activity in urban environments.

IUPUI, the state's premier urban research university, is a national leader in life sciences research, civic engagement, service learning, first-year experiences, and assessment of institutional effectiveness. IUPUI was created in 1969 as a partnership between Indiana and Purdue Universities, with IU as the managing partner and strong working relationships with Purdue. Indianapolis, the state capital of Indiana, is the 14th largest city in the nation and has a metropolitan population of 1.9 million. IUPUI is an integral part of the central Indiana community. Situated on a 509-acre campus, IUPUI is just three blocks from the Indiana Government Center, six blocks from Lucas Oil Stadium, and adjacent to White River State Park, home of the NCAA National Headquarters, the Indiana State Museum, the Indianapolis Zoo, and the Eiteljorg Museum.

IUPUI's Urban Educational Leadership and Policy Program provides a course of study focused on the unique opportunities and challenges of education in an urban environment. We prepare exemplary leaders and scholars with a deep commitment to social justice through a course of study that draws on high quality research and urban educational experiences. Our programs incorporate classroom and field-based experiences that engage a diverse corps of aspiring leaders in transformative practices for urban schools, communities, and universities. Our graduates serve as leaders in public and private schools, community and non-profit organizations, and higher education institutions.

We seek outstanding candidates with expertise in law and policy and commitments to urban communities. The ideal candidate will have a strong and promising scholarly agenda focusing on education law, public policy and urban education and a commitment preparing scholars and leaders with both academic and practical knowledge about law, public policy and urban issues. The candidate is expected to teach courses in educational law and policy focused on urban issues and settings, advise graduate students, and provide service to the school and the broader IUPUI community.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in education or a related field with emphasis in one or more of these areas: school law, public policy, urban education or a related area;

  • Priority will be given to applicants with an established program of scholarship, a commitment to community engagement, and an interest in and ability to communicate their work to broader publics as well as among scholarly peers.
