Working Hours: The college is accepting applications for part-time instructors to teach noncredit classes for adults with learning and/or developmental disabilities, for future semesters and for the following class: Our courses focus on increasing basic academic skills for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Students work in areas of reading, writing, spelling and speaking, basic mathematics, use of basic computer applications, health and physical education, and over-all problem solving. Class time includes individual and small group work with an emphasis on understanding the application of academic skills to real life. Students work toward achieving goals established on their Noncredit Educational Assistance Class Measurable Progress Report. LOCATION: MiraCosta College Community Learning Center, 1831 Mission Avenue, Oceanside, CA 92058.

Representative Duties:
The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching classes as assigned by the area dean; maintaining thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her discipline; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content and assessing student achievement.

Adherence to District policies and procedures is expected.

Minimum Qualifications:
To be eligible for this assignment, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications:

(1) A master's degree in the category of disability, special education, education, psychology, educational psychology, or rehabilitation counseling; AND fifteen (15) semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of disability, to include, but not be limited to learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, deaf and hearing impaired, physical disabilities, or adapted computer technology.

OR (2) A bachelor's degree with any of the following majors: education of students with specific or multiple disabilities; special education; psychology; physical education with an emphasis in adaptive physical education; communicative disorders; rehabilitation; computer-based education; other computer-related majors which include course work on adapted or assistive computer technology for students with disabilities; other majors related to providing specialized instruction or services to persons with disabilities.

OR (3) An associate degree with one of the majors specified in (2) above; AND four years of experience (either full time or the equivalent to full time) providing specialized instruction or services to persons in the disability category or categories being served.

OR (4) a valid appropriate California teaching credential authorizing instruction in special education in a community college;

AND have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Degrees and applicable college coursework must be from an accredited institution (a postsecondary institution accredited by an accreditation agency recognized by either the U.S. Dept of Education or the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation).

If your degree/coursework is from a college or university anywhere outside of the United States, you must submit a detailed evaluation from a professional evaluation agency. A partial list of agencies can be found at http://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/leaflets/cl635.pdf. Transcripts or translations in English still require the evaluation to show the U.S. equivalence of your degree.
