Job Description

Boston College seeks a Manager, Research Computing to provide statistical consultation and analysis to faculty in all areas of Boston College. Provide statistical expertise in research projects, including grant applications, grants, papers, dissertations. Guide researchers who need statistical expertise. Supervise the work of full-time equivalent employees and graduate students as part of general oversight of a center for statistics and advanced analysis. Specific duties include:

Research computing: Under direction, provide management over research computing functions within the group. Provide infrastructure support for the high performance computing cluster and develop a structure to manage resource demand growth. Provide consultation and support to Boston College faculty and principal investigators' research computing project needs.

Research consulting/analysis: Provide faculty and their research groups with consulting, user support, and training in relevant applications and tools. Provide expertise and support for research design, analysis, grants, and large statistical and/or geospatial datasets. Design and implement long-term quantitative initiatives to support research projects at Boston College. May be published for the statistical analysis on specified grants. Support users of research facilities and assist with managing, analyzing and producing projects with statistical and/or geospatial datasets.

Documentation/tutorials/workshops: Develop statistics-related on-line documentation and training materials. Conduct tutorials and workshops and deliver lectures for the entire research community to include faculty and graduate student consultants on statistical methods and the use of related software. Ensure that appropriate departments are aware of the statistical support resources provided by Research Services. Represent ITS to other University areas to effectively communicate the availability of research support resources to the research community.

Emerging technology: Monitor trends in statistical methods and software to ensure that consulting services are aligned with researchers' needs and current tools and methodologies. Monitor and stay current with trends in research computing, such as container technology, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

Supervision:
Ensure that customer service standards and support are upheld by assigned team.
Mentor staff and provide orientation and training to new and current staff members.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements: PhD, or foreign equivalent, in Statistics, Economics or related field; plus 3 years experience as a Research Statistician, Data Scientist, Research Analyst or related, including the following which may be gained concurrently: 3 years applying statistical methods to research in an academic environment using STATA, R, and Scripting; demonstrated record of publishing research reports and working papers; and demonstrated ability to develop and deliver technology training workshops.
