Clemson University, one of the top 25 public universities in US News and World Report, invites inquiries, nominations and applications for the position of Dean of Libraries. Clemson is seeking a leader in developing a vision for quality undergraduate and graduate education in the evolving role of the libraries. As the chief academic and administrative officer of the Clemson University Libraries, the dean reports to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost and oversees approximately 28 faculty members, 58 staff members and 60 students in the main library in the heart of the Clemson campus, along with a number of smaller collections and facilities on and off campus.

The Clemson University Libraries provide access to more than 1.6 million books, approximately 500 databases, over 65,000 journals and numerous unique, digital collections. The Libraries have strong reference and research services, a growing instruction and outreach program, progressive technical services anda high-density, remote storage facility. With an annual budget in excess of $14 million (with more than half committed to the Library collection), the Libraries are engaged in numerous digitization projects and have also been involved in several initiatives to support new forms of scholarly publishing and communication.

The Dean of Libraries will provide a clear vision of the evolving role of the Libraries and how they directly support the strategic initiatives and intellectual core of the University.

The successful candidate will have an MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited program. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success as a leader committed to the search for knowledge, a deep understanding of the needs of a research university, strong experience as a seasoned administrator, and the ability to imagine new possibilities for Clemson's libraries, archives, and special collections.
