Job Description

Career Coach (part-time (12-15 hours/week), temporary position)


The Boston College Career Center is seeking a career coach to join its Career Education team on a temporary basis. The career coach will primarily serve as an exploration coach, working with students who are just getting started with the Career Center and/or exploring multiple career clusters. This role is responsible for one-on-one career coaching, career programming, networking events, and other related educational events. The coach must be extremely relatable to students, a strong relationship builder, adept at event management and adaptable to changing trends in student interests.

In addition, the individual in this role works closely with all members of the Career Center team and operates within the broader vision and mission of the Career Center to empower students to pursue lives of meaning and impact. The career coach's work will be informed by our career development model - Explore, Prepare, Act - which considers the needs of students at each stage of this process. The Center embraces the value of a Jesuit liberal arts education, which prepares students to discern their gifts and talents and how they want to use them to engage the world.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide individual and group career coaching to undergraduate and graduate students, including career and industry exploration, interest and skills assessments, job search strategies, interview preparation, networking skills, resume and cover letter critiques, and job negotiation skills;
  • Present career development workshops on a variety of topics and formats;
  • Create and update educational materials on a range of career topics, including web content and worksheets;
  • Adapt coaching style to the unique backgrounds and identities of Boston College students;
  • Maintain proficiency with online tools, resources, and career coaching methods to continuously improve services to students;
  • Maintain and update coaching records based on sessions with students and alumni;
  • Contribute to and participate in other Career Center events, programs, and responsibilities, as needed; and
  • Support the overall work of the Boston College Career Center by providing career coaching to all students during drop-in hours and peak times in the academic year.
Competitive salary commensurate with relevant experience - expected rage - $30-$35/hour.



Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in College Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, Human Resource Management, professional degree, or related degree preferred;
  • Minimum of one to three years coaching experience in a higher education or similar setting is strongly preferred;
  • Experience in developing and implementing career-related programming and or trainings;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills;
  • Collaborative and team-oriented working style and the ability to multitask and thrive in a changing, dynamic environment;
  • Evidence of the ability to collaborate and build partnerships across the university, other institutions, and professional organizations;
  • Commitment to working with diverse populations (e.g. AHANA, LGBTQ, first generation);
  • Demonstrated comfort with technology and willingness to use technology to deliver career programming and information;
  • Willingness to conduct program assessment, look critically at results and use findings to improve Career Center services and resources; and
  • Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
