ABOUT THIS POSITION
Summary:
The COSI Advisor, under the direction of the Director of Student Success and Engagement (SSE), primary responsibility is to empower students to create and achieve their personal and educational goals through COSI (Colorado Scholarship Initiatives). The COSI Advisor will integrate curricular and co-curricular experiences and services for students to create inclusive communities that positively impact the academic success, retention and graduation of students.
COSI was created in 2014 with goal of increasing the attainment of postsecondary credentials and degrees for underserved students in CO. The project addresses this challenge by focusing on affordability while removing the barriers that keep students from successfully persisting to graduation. The COSI Advisor within the office of Student Success and Engagement, is a full-time, 4 year grant funded position.
CMU is looking for the ideal candidate for this position as the advisor's essential duties are critical in supporting our Mavericks in reaching their goals and dreams. These essential duties include supporting and mentoring COSI Scholars, adapting services and programs to increase retention/credential completion, manage student success coaches to expand the advisor reach, compliance with federal policy and guidelines regarding financial aid and scholarship, collaborates with SSE team and other campus community members. The ideal candidate will be able to develop and execute required grant activities which include providing holistic student support services in the following five main categories: college transition, academic, financial, connection/community and generalized support. These activities include but are not limited to offering informational programming on a variety of topics, provide academic coaching and advising, encourage and assist students with the completion of the FAFSA, develop and encourage a sense of community within the scholars, and other services to support the scholars on their academic journey towards credential attainment.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work or a related field.
Minimum of two years' experience working within higher education.
Previous academic advising, counseling, academic coaching, and supplemental instruction experience.
Ability to work on evenings and weekends when needed.
Experience working with a diverse student population.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree in a related field.
Bi-lingual in Spanish.
Experience teaching or giving presentations.
Additional Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, CRM Advise and Adobe Acrobat.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and clearly both verbally and in writing, and work with people at all levels diplomatically and professionally.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Possess strong attention to detail.
- Must possess and maintain a current driver's license
- Demonstrate and ability to work within a dynamic and flexible environment to best serve the students needs.
Salary: $42,000.00 - 45,000.00. Commensurate with education and
