COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • Salary Range: $62,829-$87,084 (2016/17 Faculty Salary Schedule); teaching experience, other related professional experience, and academic degrees determine salary placement on a schedule that is competitive with other California Community Colleges

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Santa Rosa Junior College is seeking a qualified Counselor to join an outstanding team of faculty, staff and instructional administrators to provide high quality programs and services to our district, our community, and most importantly, our students. This is a full-time, regular contract position with an emphasis on the Strong Workforce Development initiatives and student success and completion in the Counseling & Support Services Department at Santa Rosa Junior College, beginning Fall Semester, 2017. Appointments are contingent upon funding and Board approval.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Counseling Department provides academic counseling and advising to current and prospective students in gaining educational and career related information that assists each individual in achieving their immediate and long range academic and occupational goals. Counseling is an integral, complementary part of the instructional process that facilitates educational equity and retention. The Counseling Department participates in the educational experience by creating a climate that supports learning as well as self-understanding in order to promote effective decision-making and encourages students to develop personal responsibility in order to achieve their goals and aspirations benefiting themselves, the college and the community.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
SRJC offers services at two campuses, located in Santa Rosa and Petaluma, as well as multiple satellite locations within the district, including on-line. While this assignment is for the Santa Rosa campus, please note the district reserves the right of assignment to any location, and that assignments could involve any combination of day or evening hours. Counseling Faculty assume responsibility for maintaining currency in the field, for updating and developing new curricula (including courses that serve community needs, such as short, non-credit, or online courses), assisting in the assessment of student learning outcomes, participating in department activities and other college service such as committee work, and participating in community outreach on behalf of the college.

Minimum Qualifications:
REQUIRED
:
Master's degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work or Career Development; OR a California License in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling (LMFCC); OR the equivalent; OR possession of a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Credential in Counseling. Requires a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of California Community College Strong Workforce Development mandates and retention/completion/transfer strategies
  • Demonstrated recent counseling experience and/or teaching experience at a community college or related setting with emphasis on CTE students and programs
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students who have a broad range of academic skills, language abilities, motivation and educational/occupational goals
  • Demonstrated ability to provide counseling services and/or informational presentations to groups in varying sizes
  • Demonstrated familiarity in the use of computer technology, social media and web based technology as a teaching and counseling tool and ability to use this as a medium to offer counseling services
  • Demonstrated knowledge of California Community College Student Success Act mandates and retention/completion strategies
  • Bilingual abilities desired
  • Experience and/or willingness to teach online if classes are offered
