Job Description:
Reporting to the Associate Provost for Student Success and Director of the University Freshman Center. This individual will provide academic and general support to the first-year students. Primary responsibilities focus on the delivery of a developmental advisement approach, as well as, participating in activities and events that assist first-year students in their transition, acclimation and integration into the University community.

Responsibilities:

  • To serve as a general and academic advisor to first-year students from the point of their admission to the culmination of the first-year on campus.
  • To increase student retention by intrusively assisting first-year students with their academic, personal and financial concerns.
  • To assist first-year students in the registration process by teaching them to use the existing University technology.
  • To deliver presentations regarding the University Freshman Center at New Student Orientation.
  • To serve as a liaison to the academic units, the Department of Enrollment Management and Business Affairs, other offices that serve first-year students, as well as, instructors of Discover New York.
  • To assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Provost for Student Success and to coordinate other activities as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of full-time work experience
  • Willingness and desire to serve students from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills a must
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
  • knowledge of Banner, Blackboard, web content management, and social media platforms preferred
  • Evenings and weekend work required
