Assistant Professor of Theology and Religious Studies (Black/Womanist Scholarship)

The Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of San Diego announces a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a teacher-scholar with expertise in Black/Womanist scholarship. The candidate's area of specialization should be theology, biblical interpretation, theological ethics, church history, or religious studies. In addition to their specialization, ideal candidates will be conversant with religion and culture; religion and race; religion and gender/queer theory; religion and politics; and/or religion and peace building. We are particularly interested in a scholar whose teaching and research will advance the interests of African Americans and communities of color. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory courses as well as upper-division courses in the area(s) of specialization, and may include courses that fulfill the Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice requirement in our newly revised core curriculum.

Applicants should hold a doctorate by the time of the appointment, September 2018. Commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and an active scholarly agenda are expected.
