    Job Description Summary:
    BASIC FUNCTION: The Career Counselor meets with students one-on-one and in group settings to provide major exploration and career counseling services to students and alumni. This person will oversee the University's general Internship Program and will maintain responsibility for other student-focused and alumni programming related to career development. The Career Counselor will assist with managing the day-to-day operations of the Center for Career and Professional Development, serving students, alumni, faculty, staff/administration and area employers.

    DUTIES:

  • Provide individual career counseling sessions- scheduled electronically or by walk-in; administer and interpret results from career assessment instruments such as the Strong Interest Inventory, Self-Directed Search, FOCUS2, etc. instruments.
  • Coordinate the University's general Internship Program: counsel students interested in internships with regard to skills, interests in relation to potential positions; assist internship applicants with the internship process including application completion and review, resume writing and interview preparation, identifying and applying for internship opportunities; confirm placement with employer; monitor students' progress through informal conversation and formal mid-semester meetings; help develop new internship opportunities. When necessary, help students and employers resolve conflicts.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with School deans, students, faculty, staff, alumni and employers to support the internship program
  • Design and facilitate cutting-edge career development related programs/workshops; Research new topics as needed and create new workshops.
  • Conduct class presentations regarding services; demonstrate usage of databases, job search strategies, resume and cover letter writing, interviewing strategies, etc.
  • Orient First Year College Success Seminar (COL 101) students to CCPD services
  • Advise undeclared first year students referred to the CCPD and provide additional intrusive career advising for those students that have not declared a major at the end of their first semester.
  • Teach COL 125: Career Planning & Exploration during the fall/spring semesters
  • Manage and support client usage of internship databases using CSM/SymplicityNacelink (JobSource).Utilize Hyperion to send out targeted messages to groups of students (e.g. senior class).
  • Advertise career events and programs via Sitecore, Hyperion, and flyers and other marketing channels.
  • Serve as Cabrini University's liaison to the Delaware Valley Education Consortium/Philadelphia Teacher Job Fair.
  • Participate in planning and attending other job fairs.
  • Maintain professional memberships and attend professional development conferences, such as EACE, DVCP, MACCA, MAEE, PennACE, NACE as appropriate and funding allows
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Technology skills: Microsoft Office Suite, ability to use and customize CSM/Symplicity NaceLink, Social Media Platforms, etc.
  • Skillful in career counseling, job search strategies, resume writing, cover letter writing, interviewing strategies, usage of career assessments such as SII, Focus2, and SDS
  • Excellent organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work flexible hours on occasion, with advanced notice, to support on- and off-campus events of the CCPD. Hours may include some evenings and weekends..
  • Ability and availability to travel independently to off-campus employers/events.
  • Preferably able to work 9am-5pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 11am-7pm on Wednesdays (alternative hours available if necessary).
